How we know

Xcout Intel counts a private company as a unicorn when its latest valuation from a priced funding round is $1 billion or more. A valuation counts only when the round is between 1% and 70% of it, or when a second source agrees; stock-market capitalisations never count.

What this does not show

  • Listed, acquired, bankrupt and private-equity-owned companies are left out, so this count is lower than lists that keep them.
  • "Unicorn" here means we hold a sourced $1B+ valuation; a company without one may still be worth more.
  • 181 of the valuations are more than two years old and may no longer hold.
